Enter and View: Ashbourne Lodge Care Centre

On 15^th October 2019, Healthwatch Sunderland undertook an Enter and View visit Ashbourne Lodge Care Centre to effectively capture the resident’s experience. The home has the capacity to support 40 residents aged 55 years and over. Residents are supported under the categories of Residential and Enduring Mental Ill-health (EMI) Residential.

The Healthwatch team gathered feedback from the residents, their family and friends, staff and Managers via surveys and also made observations during the visit. They found the home to have a visible management; staff with adequate skills but not enough time to do their jobs; the staff had a good knowledge of each resident and their changing needs; residents had access to a variety of activities; they could also access healthcare professionals on a regular basis; the home had an open environment which catered to resident’s personal, cultural and lifestyle needs; the management actively sought feedback and provided a physical environment which is suitable for the needs of the residents. However, the home did not offer much quality, choice and flexibility around food and mealtimes.
