Summary of report content

On 1st November 2019, Healthwatch Sunderland undertook an Enter and View visit to Holy Cross Care Home to effectively capture the resident’s experience. The home has the capacity to support 56 residents aged 65 years and over. Residents are supported under the categories of Enduring Mental Ill-health (EMI) Residential, Nursing and Residential Care.

The Healthwatch team gathered feedback from the residents, their family and friends, staff and Managers via surveys and also made observations during the visit. They found the home to have a strong visible management; staff with time and skills to do their jobs; the staff had a good knowledge of each resident and their changing needs; residents had access to a variety of activities; they could also access healthcare professionals on a regular basis; the home had an open environment which catered to resident’s personal, cultural and lifestyle needs; the management actively sought feedback and provided a physical environment which is suitable for the needs of the residents. However, the home did not offer much quality, choice and flexibility around food and mealtimes.

The report did not make any recommendations.
