Healthwatch Rochdale conducted an Enter and View visit to Cleggsworth Care Home, a residential care home with places for up to 38 residents. The home was evaluated against nine quality indicators: strong, visible management; staff with the time and skills to do their job; good knowledge of each individual resident and how their needs may be changing; a varied programme of activities; quality, choice and flexibility around food and mealtimes; ensuring residents can regularly see health professionals such as GPs, dentists, opticians or chiropodists; accommodating residents personal, cultural and lifestyle needs; being an open environment where feedback is actively sought and used; and providing a physical environment which is suitable for the needs of the residents.
Based on the observations and findings of the Enter and View representatives against the quality indicators, Healthwatch Rochdale made five recommendations surrounding: methods of communication between staff and management; ensuring enough staff were available to spend time with residents; ensuring staff have sufficient training on dementia; demonstrating how giving feedback can make a positive difference through a 'you said, we did' board; and signing up to the local Cleaning Champion Programme for care homes in Rochdale. The report includes a response to these recommendations by the service provider.
