Healthwatch Sheffield conducted an Enter and View visit to Brackenfield Hall Care Home in February 2019. The care home is a residential and dementia care home offering care for up to 60 people. Healthwatch St Helens spoke to 16 residents, staff and visitors.
The report found that residents paused the staff attitudes and reported that they were positive. Staff reported that they are supported and that they have training opportunities. A range of activities are offered to residents and local school children often visit the home too. Staff and residents have meals together so they can chat and provide support when required. A staff member said the home has a strong relationship with a local GP practice, which all residents are registered with.
A number of recommendations were made including reviewing the advertisement of residents' and relatives' meetings; continue to have residents on the care home committee; involve residents and relatives in how to make the family room more homely; add signs to communal areas; consider arrangements for relatives to stay overnight; and to ensure that menus on display have up to date information on them.
The service provider responded positively to the report.
