On 11 June 2019, staff from Healthwatch Halton and Healthwatch Warrington visited a few wards in the Warrington hospital to speak to patients and visitors. Their overall impression of all the wards was positive which included clean and bright interiors, well displayed information boards, adequate levels of staffing, empathetic staff attitude, respect of privacy for patients and dementia-friendly signage. However, they found a stack of chairs blocking a fire exit in one of the wards, some visitors complained about parking facilities, a few patients said they disliked the hospital food and would prefer the main lights to be dimmed earlier. The report made seven recommendations which included monitoring staffing levels, reduce clutter where possible, review the pricing of TV viewing by patients, ensure long term patients do not feel isolated, review the equipment need in the paediatric unit, review the delays in discharge and review the parking facilities of the hospital. The report contains a response from the provider with implied and tangible impact.
