In May and June 2019 Healthwatch Richmond upon Thames conducted a series of Enter & View visits to the adult inpatient wards at Kingston Hospital. They spoke to 102 patients and relatives, and 65 members of staff.
They found that the majority of patients felt that staff were positive and caring. Patients felt that they were kept informed of changes and were involved in decision making. Patients also felt that their privacy and dignity had been respected. Medication was given on time and staff worked hard to deliver this. The food and drink on the ward was described as good, but patients had encountered difficulties with obtaining food for special requirements. Staff members felt they were supported by senior staff. Staff also raised concerns about issues with the patient transport booking system.
A number of recommendations were made based on these findings and the hospital has responded to them in a positive manner.
