Healthwatch North East Lincolnshire carried out an Enter and View visit to Glyn Thomas House Care Home on 16 May 2019.
Findings of the Enter and View representatives included: the home offered a comprehensive range of activities and encouraged them to feel connected to the local community; staff responded well to residents' individual needs and demonstrated a caring and empathetic approach; the home had taken a proactive approach to their laundry service by provision of separate 'clean' and 'dirty' laundry rooms, aiding infection control; and the home provided a very homely environment, with a great deal of care taken in choice and placement of furniture, decor and modern furnishings. Residents' feedback was all very positive.
Healthwatch North East Lincolnshire made four recommendations for Glyn Thomas House: to consider implementing a more 'dementia friendly' environment that would aid navigation and reminiscence for residents living with dementia; to ensure the staff continues to maintain the correct staff ratio once the new extension to the home is built; to ensure that the home's CQC rating is on display in reception; and to maximise online GP consultations to ensure that referrals by the GP are carried out in a timely manner.
