Healthwatch Hartlepool carried out an Enter and View visit to West View Lodge care home on 6 February 2019, as a follow up to a previous visit made in 2018.
Observation by the Enter and View representatives found that: residents in the long term residential unit said that they were happy, and a variety of activities and exercises were offered; residents appreciated the choice, quality and quantity of food available; drinks were widely available; and staff were polite and aware of residents' privacy. Some residents remarked that staff tried to find time to talk to them, but were also very busy. Most residents said they knew how to make a complaint. The unit specifically for people with dementia was clean and staff were very aware and inclusive of residents, and the dining room was much more personal and homely than it had been on the previous visit.
Healthwatch Hartlepool did not make any specific recommendations, but the report contains a positive response from the service provider outlining further improvements being implemented at the home.
