Healthwatch Cheshire West undertook this Enter and View on 23 January 2024 to Pinetum Care Home in Chester. Pinetum offers care for up to 45 people who require nursing and respite care, including those who are living with the early stages of dementia. It also offers specialist care for adults with complex needs such as brain and spinal injury.
Before visiting, Healthwatch Cheshire West gave ten resident and ten friends and family surveys to the home to be completed, along with a poster with a QR code to gain access to the survey. 13 residents completed surveys and four relatives.
The report identifies several things working well. The home is clear and tidy, and residents feel safe and cared for. Staff work in a person-centred way and go above and beyond for residents, while management has a good knowledge of everyday life in the home. It is a very busy home, however communication between staff is good and the Activities Coordinator works very hard and is very involved with the residents.
The report makes four recommendations.
- Ensure staff wear name badges.
- Check that all residents’ dietary requirements are followed.
- Change resident meetings to monthly
- Continue ensuring staff wellbeing is a priority.
