Summary of report content

Healthwatch Gloucestershire visited Cirencester Minor Injury and Illness UNIT (MIIU) on 13 December 2023. The visit was part of Healthwatch Gloucestershire’s ongoing partnership work to support improving patient experiences across the county. The visit was also in support of a wider piece of work on Urgent and Emergency Care services.

The visit was carried out over two sessions on the same day, and across the two sessions Healthwatch Gloucestershire spoke to nine staff and 29 patients. The report describes a warm, welcoming and relaxed atmosphere across the unit, with unanimously positive feedback from patients. Staff were observed to be working as a team to ensure patients were seen in a timely manner, with patients only spending short periods in the waiting room.

The report makes three recommendations.

  1. Consider if different types of seating could be introduced to the main waiting room to make patients more comfortable.
  2. Consider replacing the clock in the main waiting room as the current one may be difficult to read for some patients.
  3. Stick to the plan to create space in the waiting room for wheelchair and mobility aid users by removing the vending machine.

The provider has already actioned one of these, changing the clock to a more easily readable one.
