The Healthwatch from Essex, Southend and Thurrock engaged with 871 people to give feedback on services in the area. The report covers people managing their own health
The the focus groups included collecting views on appointments, referrals, continuity, communication and information, ESOL support, access, transport and information, local services, hospitals and GP services. The survey collected views on waiting times, appointment opportunities, communications and information guidance for both diagnostic conditions and wider ones.
The results of the report were that the majority of people felt that their support expectations were being met in the categories of "Yes" to "Somewhat". The surveys and focus groups highlighted the need for better communication between staff and patients as well as across departments within healthcare services. A need for more information to be provided across the services from preventative, managing conditions and options. There was a general view of the need for more proactive setting for appointments and follow-ups without the patient needing to chase themselves. Concern over waiting times and flexibility in appointments to meet modern living arrangements.
