Healthwatch County Durham undertook an Enter and View of Great Lumley Surgery on 3 July 2023. This was done as part of a programme looking at six surgeries to gather patient feedback on access, services offered and specific requirements. During the visit, they surveyed 11 patients and 3 further people completed the survey they left at reception.
Appointment availability:
- Everyone they spoke to on the day told them they had been able to get an appointment recently at the surgery. Even where a patient had needed to change an appointment, they were offered an alternative. More than half felt they needed to be seen on the same day.
- 18% said they had used NHS 111, 27% said they used the pharmacy when no appointment was available. 55 % said they had not used another service, either they would ring again, had no choice but to be seen or had insisted they needed to be seen.
- 46% people said it would have affected other aspects of their lives if they had been unable to get an appointment.
Specific requirements:
- 82% of people said they did not have additional communication/information needs. 18% said they did, with one saying “appointment card is provided but I would prefer a text or letter confirming appointment”
