This report is by Healthwatch Essex, it looks at the experience of local people with COPD and other respiratory conditions accessing health and care support.

Both surveys and interviews were used to gather people's views in this project.

The difficulty of living with COPD and other respiratory conditions is highlighted, particularly as they can worsen over time.

There are recommendations in the report.

  • Diagnosis - the need for early diagnosis and support by GPs for face-to-face appointments.
  • Management - there may not be enough support for people with these conditions to manage them well.
  • Technology - greater use of technology such as apps and machines to monitor and help maintain health.
  • Mental Health and Wellbeing - living with such disease presents a burden to mental health.
