This is an Enter and View report by Healthwatch Telford and Wrekin.
Healthwatch conducted an Enter and View at the Benett House care home. Representatives spoke to the manager, six members of staff and seven residents.
People were generally happy with the home but there were suggestions made about the condition of some areas and the changes to cooked meals.
There are recommendations in this report.
- Continue with the clearing of the gardens and the maintenance of pathways, include asking the residents around their favourite plants / flowers to encourage them to support the maintenance if able to.
- Consider putting together a plan and timeline for redecoration including the residents around colour etc. This would include their own personal rooms.
- Consider clearing and repurposing the large day room.
- Ensure that all old and unnecessary posters are removed from walls / noticeboards.
- Consider larger print for the menus.
- Ensure all residents choose when they have a bath/shower and is documented into their care plans.
- Engage with the residents around what activities they would like to engage in.
- Ensure that posters for staff are on a separate notice board, such as some of the health and safety posters displayed.
There are no follow up actions in this report.
However the provider has noted that there will be new ownership soon and that meals will then be cooked on-site.
