Healthwatch Warwickshire undertook an Enter and View visit of Kenilworth Grange Care Home on 27 April 2023. During the visit, they spoke to residents and staff members, including the chef.
Kenilworth Grange is a purpose built 60 bedroom residential nursing home in a central location in Kenilworth. It is home to a mix of people that include older people, wheelchair users and people with dementia.
The home cares for up to ten people who have left hospital and are waiting for an assessment to see if they can go home. It also looks after residents who have complex needs and at the end of a person’s life, their care needs can be met in the home, so that they do not have to go into hospital to die. The Discharge to Assess unit has enabled the home to get extra nursing staff, including a tissue viability nurse.
The décor in many areas is of a high standard and the housekeeping team keep the home very clean and there were no noticeable odours or obstructions anywhere.
Residents said they were happy living at the home. Residents also appeared to be friends with each other and chatted together.
The report has made several recommendations, including refurbishing the kitchen and dining room, making some areas wheelchair accessible, and fixing maintenance issues.
