Three panel members from Healthwatch St Helens and Healthwatch Halton visited to identify what services are offered in each borough and assess the standard and ease of access to those services.
The panel members wanted to obtain service users feedback on the quality of services and analyse commonality/difference in services provided across the different boroughs.
The visitors observed two wards during the visit. Upon arrival, there were no staff on duty in reception and they felt that their presence was not welcomed.The visitors felt that Taylor Ward and Iris Ward were brisk, functional and busy but had a relaxing calm about them. There seemed to be a good partnership working with Addaction - patients tend to have drug issues and appeared to be a good focus on recovery and a person-centred approach. Drink, snacks and food were available during the day. Residents said the quality of the food during meals could be improved. The volume and “tone” of posters concerning illegal substances was felt to be threatening to vulnerable patients and it was recommended that this material could be put into a visitor pack instead.
Healthwatch made several recommendations about room temperature control, the content of some of the posters in the building, and additional activities that could be held for the residents.
