Summary of report content

New manager in place and no CQC inspection since last Healthwatch visit.

Findings:

• 4 star rating for kitchen was waiting an inspection from the Environmental Health Officer.

• The home was making good progress with the Gold Standard Framework for End of Life Care but this had been slowed as a result in recruitment of a manager.

• Major part of training for people with dementia was provided by Care UK.

• Barchester (the home’s proprietors) are in the process of developing their own “1066 programme” for caring for people with dementia. This training will take 6 months for staff to undertake. Almost 60% of training is via e-learning and the Manager confirmed that staff are paid for training in either work time or in own time.

• The Manager advised that she had implemented changes to the menu to ensure that there were changes between the seasons. Dining room was set up ready for dinner and the Manager confirmed that alcohol was served at weekends only.

• The Manager had ongoing concerns about the slow turn around of Depravation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLs) applications.

• Ongoing refurbishment was taking place and was not causing too much disruption to the residents.

• Significant changes for colour scheme being implemented following Healthwatch recommendations.
