Healthwatch Central Bedfordshire Young Healthwatch was asked to review the services provided by Keech Hospice to young people and to assess what young people needed when visiting relatives receiving treatment at the hospice. They undertook an Enter and View visit on 3 August 2022.
Young Healthwatch volunteers were impressed with the staff and service provided at Keech Hospice. They felt the following worked particularly well:
- Staff were very friendly and approachable and treated patients with dignity and respect
- Staff felt valued and trained
- There was a good variety of food for patients available at flexible times within the lunch/dinner time period and there were options to eat food in the cafeteria or outside
- There was a sensory room in the children’s area
- The hospice was very clean
- All bedrooms had access to a lot of natural light and their own patio
- There was an art room for therapy
- There was free Wi-Fi throughout
- There were Good lighting options in the bedrooms
- There was a large garden with good accessibility
The report contains a number of recommendations about staffing, staff training, food and catering, the accommodation and facilities.
