In September 2016 Healthwatch Hertfordshire carried out a enter and view visit to Honister Residential Care. The purpose of the visit was to explore the resident’s quality of life in respect of environment, leisure and services, digital inclusion and food and drink.
Healthwatch Hertfordshire at the time of the visit was conducting a rolling programme of Enter and View visits to care homes/nursing homes, the Honister Residential Care Home was part of that programme.
The report identified the following areas of good practice:
• Good friendly and caring staff.
• Good training and education opportunities for staff.
• Lots of compliments from visitors and relatives.
• Manager aware of the needs of the environment and has plans for improvements.
• Manager has plans for fund raising for a minibus.
• Excellent care plans for residents. This should be shown to other organisations as an example of good practice.
• Staff treat residents with dignity and respect.
• Homely cooked food.
• Staff respect resident’s wishes.
There were 14 recommendations made within the report and the provider response was included throughout, the responses highlighted where immediate or planned action was agreed.
