Healthwatch Hartlepool undertook two Enter and View visits to Stichell House Residential Care Home in May 2022. They spoke to 14 people in total including residents, relatives and staff.
Stichell House Residential Care Home has capacity for 35 residents and at the time of the visit there were 34 residents. The visits were conducted in response to concerns raised by a relative.
Residents overall were positive about the treatment and care provided by staff. They spoke about the good quality of food, staff treating them with dignity and mentioned that accommodations were made for residents when necessary. Residents also reported feeling safe living in the home.
One relative mentioned a lack of communication around the condition of her relative in the home.
Staff use iPads during shifts to track care and treatment provided so that there is a comprehensive record of all of the care given to each patient.
The report concluded with a couple of minor recommendations, including reinstating visits that were paused due to the Covid 19 pandemic and developing a newsletter for relatives to increase communication. There were also a couple of necessary updates to the building, which the manager agreed to address.
