Summary of report content

Healthwatch Hartlepool undertook two virtual Enter and View visits to Rossmere Park Care Centre, once on 15 July 2021 and again on 2 September 2021. For the second visit, six family members responded to the questionnaire about the care of their relative. The visits were virtual as in-person visits were paused due to the Covid 19 pandemic.

Rossemere Park Care Centre has capacity for 51 residents, and at the time of these visits there were 49 residents. The aim of the visit was together feedback and insight about how the Covid 19 pandemic has impacted care.

The care home had enough personal protective equipment throughout the pandemic, supported by their local authority. Residents affected with Covid 19 were successfully isolated from other residents and cared for.

Staff were also had physical and mental health support from management throughout the pandemic. Staff training continued during this time.

Resident activities were carried out as much as possible, and podiatry, GP visits and dentistry remained available.

Some residents who were living with dementia found it hard to cope due to being unable to see relatives, but staff attempted telephone and skype calls as much as possible.

The family members who responded to the questionnaire all spoke positively of the care the residents receive. The residents in the communal areas passed during the virtual tour were enjoying themselves and spoke positively about the care home and staff.

The report concludes that there were no significant recommendations to be made, as air conditioning units had been installed following a CQC report mentioning ventilation in the building.
