Holderness House is a residential care home for women in Hull. The home currently provides care for 25 women. The home is a registered charity. Healthwatch Kingston upon Hull undertook a virtual engagement during the Covid-19 pandemic, interviewing staff, residents and the registered manager using online platforms.
The week long engagement started on Monday 18 January 2021. In total, 12 people took part: the registered manager, seven staff members and four residents.
The report finds that there had been significant due care and attention given to safeguarding the home against Covid-19. The home did experience some issues with supplies at the beginning of the pandemic, but this was resolved.
Healthwatch Kingston upon Hull found the care home to be very person centred, with the term family often used by staff members. The residents were in high spirits, with lockdown restrictions being the only issue hindering their wellbeing.
The report recommends that the home make more active use of social media, which could provide reassuring updates to family and friends during lockdown. It also recommends implementing lateral flow testing as soon as possible, to allow residents to have face-to-face visits with loved ones.
