Young Healthwatch Central Bedfordshire undertook an awareness project on eating disorders because one member of the group had had a personal experience of eating disorders within their family and wanted to raise awareness of the issues and to support other young people going through a similar experience.
They interviewed 2 service users and their parents, a teacher and a CAMHS eating disorder specialist nurse to create four podcasts.
The podcasts included in-depth questions about how eating disorders has affected each of them in different ways, and each episode offered advice and support for others who may be in similar situations. They shared a link to the podcast to local schools and other groups likely to be in touch with affected young people. As a follow up, they created a leaflet on how to spot eating disorders in young people and signposting to support groups.
