Summary of report content

In May and June 2016 Healthwatch Kingston upon Hull completed a series of Enter and View Visits to two Minor Injury Units (MIU) and one Walk in Centre. Following each of the visits Healthwatch prepared an interim report, this report summaries results of findings from all 3 visits:

• The Freedom Centre MIU - During the 2 visits, three patients completed the patient observation survey. All three patients expressed how difficult it was to get an appointment with their own GP, which was why they had presented at The Freedom Centre. The only negative mentioned was the sign displaying waiting times, which cited ninety minutes or two hours as the waiting time, even when it was not busy.

• The Bransholme MIU, located within the purpose built Bransholme Health Centre. Nine patients completed the patient observation survey. A significant percentage of those spoken to explained that they attended the MIU owing to a lack of available appointments with their own GP. Some were even referred by their GP to the MIU. During each of the three E&V visits to the site, the MIU was not busy. No patient waited longer than forty-five minutes to be seen. The centre was advertising waiting times of significantly longer than that. All patients who completed the survey responded in a positive manner. There were no negative comments.

• The Story Street Medical Practice and Walk-in Centre located at The Wilberforce Health Centre was visited twice by Healthwatch’s E&V team. Ten patients completed the patient observation survey. Most of those surveyed explained that they had attended the Walk-in centre because they could not get an appointment with their own GP. None of those surveyed offered any negative comments.
