In December 2016, Healthwatch West Berkshire, carried out 3 separate Enter and View visits to 2 Boots pharmacies in Newbury and 1 in Thatcham. The purpose of the visits were to follow up on pharmacy engagement activity undertaken in previous months and also to ensure the
Healthwatch Work Plan for 2015-16 met its objectives.
In total across the 3 visits 52 questionnaire were completed along with observation records. The report details the findings across the 3 sites in terms of:
• Waiting times
• Staff
• Access
• Confidentiality
• Safety
• And General Comments
Generally the findings for the pharmacies were positive, the recommendations made across the 3 sites included those below:
• Ensure staff badges are clearly displayed.
• Consider utilising a ticketing / digital screen system to alert people of projected waiting times.
• Minimise clutter where possible to maximise accessibility.
At the time of publication only one of the pharmacies responded. The pharmacy said they would consider the areas highlighted in the Healthwatch report.
