In December 2016 Healthwatch Richmond carried out an Enter and View visit to Gwynne Holford Ward in Queen Mary’s Hospital. The visit was to explore the provision of ward based activities, care planning and discharge procedures.
The service visited provides specialist neurorehabilitation to patients who require intensive therapy following acquired neurological conditions resulting in physical or psychological disabilities. This includes patients who have had strokes, traumatic injuries to the brain or spine etc. A total of 14 patients, 3 visitors and 13 staff were interviewed as part of the visit.
The overall view of Healthwatch Richmond was that the care they observed on the ward was of a high standard. The ward was clean and well-kept and the patients looked well cared for. There appeared to be enough staff on the ward to respond to the patients’ needs and the patients’ overall view of the staff and the care they were receiving was very positive.
There were 8 recommendations made within the report but at the time of publishing there was no provider or commissioner response incorporated into the report.
