A study found that deaf and disabled people found difficulties in obtaining mental health support. Healthwatch Wandsworth carried out a survey to find out what it was like to use these services in Wandsworth.
The survey was open from 18th January 2017 to 30th March 2017. Difficulties were found in working within a short time frame and finding existing forums to collect the views of service users.
Healthwatch Wandsworth also attended a workshop on 24th January 2017 with Share, a Wandsworth based organisation working with disabled people to enable them to live more independently. During a group session 29 students shared their views on what works well for them and what they find more challenging when accessing health and social care services.
18 responses were received to the survey which was advertised on the web site and on social media. It was also circulated through contacts and outreach events. 7 questions were asked in the survey and details of the responses are given in the report.
The responses provided pointers to the issues for the deaf and disabled in the borough and the main points are summarised in the report.
