Summary of report content

Healthwatch Nottingham and Healthwatch Nottinghamshire undertook a survey on people’s experiences of using and accessing GP services.  399 people responded.

Over two thirds had contacted the GP practice to make an appointment with a healthcare professional. Nearly seven in ten had contacted the surgery by phone.

Two thirds got what they wanted from their most recent contact with the GP practice.  The most common reasons why they didn’t included no appointments available and a long time waiting on the phone.

Fifteen per cent had contacted other services before their GP including pharmacies and NHS 111. Nearly two thirds had looked elsewhere for information.

When asked what went well when using the GP practice, the most common answers were a positive staff attitude and good service.  However, people also discussed challenges in booking appointments including long waits on the phone and limited times to call.

The report contains two recommendations.
