This report details the findings from a joint public health forum ran by Healthwatch Harrow and Community ConneX in September 2022. The event invited GPs from across Harrow’s five PCNs to discuss GP access, listen to residents’ concerns, and raise awareness of cervical and bowel cancer screening. Healthwatch Harrow summarised the feedback they receive around GP access and gave four questions to the panel of GPs in advance. The GPs prepared presentations around these questions and took audience questions, and the report contains slides from these sessions.
Over 100 residents attended.
85% had not heard of the new PATCHS online booking system.
25% were confident that they could get an appointment in a reasonable time frame when they needed one.
30% were confident that they could get a face-to-face appointment if needed.
12% were confident that they could get through to speak to someone on the telephone when they needed to.
Healthwatch Harrow concludes that consistency and communication are key to ensuring that patients know how to access the practices, and will monitor whether there is improvement in GP access through their quarterly Trend Analysis Reports. Community ConneX will work to ensure that those with a learning disability are identified when they make contact with the practice, so that reasonable adjustments can be made.
