Summary of report content

Healthwatch Bath and North East Somerset did a previous piece of research in January 2022 to see if any dentists in Bath and North East Somerset were taking on patients. This report details a follow-up piece of research conducted 6 months later, where they repeat the research. The report also summarises Healthwatch England’s work on dentistry and provides signposting to support services.

A volunteer contacted every dentist in the area to ask if they were taking on new patients, finding that no local dentists are taking on new patients, and two of those contacted had stopped taking NHS patients entirely. One practice said that the income from NHS contracts did not cover the cost of treating NHS patients, so they were unable to continue providing the service.
