Summary of report content

Healthwatch Manchester undertook mystery shopping into dental registrations.  They phoned all the dental practices in the Manchester City area to find out if they were accepting new NHS patients and new private patients.

Over three quarters of the practices they contacted were not taking on new NHS patients.  Only three were taking on new NHS patients and a further 4 only accepted people under 18 as NHS patients. None of the practices who were not accepting new NHS patients could give an exact timeframe for when they would begin doing so.

Nearly half were accepting new private patients.

The report contains four recommendations.
