Healthwatch Trafford conducted an announced Enter and View visit at Shawe Lodge Nursing Home in October 2017 as part of an ongoing planned series of visits to care homes to discover what residents and their families think about the health and social services.
Four Enter and View representatives made observations and engaged with staff and residents during the visit. Additionally, questionnaires were sent to the Home Manager and to residents’ family and carers, asking for their anonymous views. Nine completed questionnaires were returned to Healthwatch Trafford.
Representatives spoke with the manager and made observations around the Home, exploring: premises, communal areas, bedroom facilities, cleanliness and hygiene, access and security, décor and ambience, activities, dementia-friendly features, staff and resident interaction, food and meals and resident’s meetings.
Nine recommendations were made, including: ways to make the Home more dementia friendly, more focus on individual resident-led activities, focus on improving staff training and retention, working with the Falls Team to implement preventative measures and better communication with local GP. Links to evidence of good practice were highlighted within the report.
The report does not contain a response from the provider.
