In November 2017, Healthwatch Shropshire carried out an enter and view visit to the Ophthalmology Department of Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. The purpose of the visit was to understand whether the new location of the Eye Clinic has improved the quality of patient care and to explore the arrangements for implementing the Accessible Information Standard for the visually impaired. This comes following a previous visit to the service back in 2015.
Three Authorised Representatives made observations of the environment, signage, facilities, communication, information, appointments system and staff understanding of the requirements of the Accessible Information Standard (AIS).
The representatives engaged with 8 patients, 4 relatives and 3 members of reception staff.
The report makes 6 recommendations, including: improvements to the hospital website, better communication of waiting times, to make drinking water available, and provision of information about services available.
The report does not contain a response from the provider.
