Summary of report content

In February 2017, Healthwatch Derbyshire carried out a report to highlight themes and trends emerging from discussion with local people who suffer from eating disorders.

Participants at the engagement sessions were not asked specific questions, but instead were invited to talk more generally about their experiences of getting a diagnosis of their condition, support from health professionals, accessing treatment and accessing other forms of support, including support groups. The engagement session consisted of a group discussion. There were 11 people present; 10 female and one male.

The report highlights many important findings relating to the service, mainly that it is not for purpose and there is a lack of awareness among healthcare professionals about eating disorders.

The report makes 10 recommendations to services and commissioners and contains responses from Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and Hardwick Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG).
