Summary of report content

Healthwatch Staffordshire conducted an unannounced Enter and View visit to Ash Hall Nursing Home, a 60 bed nursing care home, on 2 May 2018. The visit was designed to evaluate how the home implements the eight Quality Indicators for Care Homes developed by Independent Age.

The Healthwatch Staffordshire Authorised Representatives found that the upper floor of the house was not as well maintained as the ground floor, with a number of health and safety issues noted.

The visiting team did note, however, that the management was very visible within the Home, there was a good staff to resident ratio, and that staff appeared to be motivated and well supported to care for the residents with skill and enough time so do so.

The food choice was observed to be ample with a social dining area and support available to those who require it. There appeared to be good access to healthcare and the report noes that residents needs and preferences generally appeared to be met.

The report makes 14 recommendations including that the home explore different ways of gathering feedback from residents, friends and families as the residents/ relatives meeting was on a hiatus at the time of the visit.

The provider has responded to all recommendations and has outlined the actions either already taken, or those pending.
