Summary of report content

Healthwatch Birmingham conducted an Enter and View on the Bergamot Suite at the Juniper Centre, an 18-bed mixed gender ward for older people with functional mental health issues, on 24th April 2014.

The visit focused on patient, relative and carer experience around three key themes: The care and welfare of the people who use the services; staffing; and assessing and monitoring the quality of service provision.

Observation by the Enter and View representatives reported that: the ward was well managed with a committed and supported staff team, with good support from managers/leads.

One patient commented that: it was very noisy on the unit; and the brightness of the lights kept them awake.

The Manager responded to the report, giving detail about processes of the Care Programme Approach and discharge plans, as well as a response to the single recommendation regarding space in the dining room.
