Healthwatch Staffordshire conducted an unannounced visit to Beech Lodge, a 39 bed residential Care Home, on 20 May 2014 to follow on from a recent Care Quality Commission visit.
The Enter and View Authorised Representatives found the staff were, on the whole, long standing and felt part of a good and caring team. They spoke to one resident who had moved in six weeks previously, and said that while it had taken some time to settle in, they were very happy in the Home now. The resident felt that staff had time to socialise with him, thought the food was very good and was generally very comfortable.
Relatives spoken to had moved their family member from another home and were very impressed with the improvements they had seen in the resident's demeanour since living at Beech Lodge.
The recommendations made in the report related to improving the outdoor areas so that residents could enjoy the warmer weather, and a suggestion that some of the residents may like to be involved with some light gardening such as planting window boxes.
There was not provider response included within the report.
