Healthwatch Cheshire West conducted an unannounced enter and view visit to the Sexual Health and HIV Unit at the Countess of Chester Hospital on 13 January 2015. The team engaged with 12 service users using survey methods and spoke to 9 members of staff during the visit across the two clinics.
The team found the unit to be welcoming, efficient and effectively run. Staff’s attitudes and availability were praised by service users. They reported positive feedback and felt they were treated in a discreet and friendly manner. They praised the use of the ticketing system and self-referrals to ensure that anonymity was protected. In addition, the report highlighted the use of an onsite lab and the ability of the unit to treat patients immediately.
The report included recommendations provided by service users, including the consideration for the use of online booking services. The service provider response raised the issue that the clinic would be closing in the subsequent weeks and how this will impact future sexual health service delivery and patient experience.
