Healthwatch South Gloucestershire produced this Enter and View report to reflect on two visits conducted to Little Croft Care Home in Bristol on the 10th and 14th February 2015. 7 representatives took part in the visits over the two visits.
Overall, Little Croft Care Home was found to be delivering a satisfactory standard of care with dedicated and caring members of staff and there is a lot that the Home offers that could be commended. The following commendations were made by the representatives:
The home-cooked meals looked appetising, were well prepared and well served. Members of staff were observed being caring and considerate with residents. Good attention was paid to residents’ hydration needs. The home felt warm and welcoming and all staff were friendly and helpful. The majority of residents appeared to be relaxed and happy
The residents expressed satisfaction with how they were looked after and in some cases, they were delighted with their care. Likewise, relatives were mainly satisfied and appreciative of the care their family members were receiving.
However, there are some areas and issues which Healthwatch representatives felt could be given more attention. These included:
- Providing a greater and more diverse range of activities, including outdoor activities, and especially those suitable for male residents
- Improving the information on noticeboards for residents
- Offering more choice of main courses at lunchtime
It was suggested that Little Croft Care Home undertake a self-audit to check that the home is dementia friendly, using the tool developed by The King’s Fund; “Is your care home dementia friendly?” (The King’s Fund 2014).
