Healthwatch Barnet conducted an announced Enter and View visit to Clara Nehab House on 24 February 2015. The home is a member of the National Jewish Association of Care Homes. The team spoke with staff and relatives on the day of the visit and relatives completed a survey that was provided after the visit. The team engaged with 10 people.
Overall, the team observed a caring and pleasant environment for residents. They felt there was a dedicated care team where staff were content and spoke highly of the home. Although, the team felt more training on dementia should be provided. The staff observed varied activities within the home and were told that there is opportunity for the residents to engage with activities outside of the home. Some residence, however, felt that they should be consulted about the type of activities are provided. Relatives were complimentary about the home and felt well informed about what happens in the home.
The report made 4 recommendations; to provide hand gel in the lobby, ensure that follow up actions from relatives’ meetings are made known, to ensure that residents are regularly asked for feedback about activities and choice of food and to consider additional dementia training for staff.
The service provider responded to the report thanking the team and suggested that action on the recommendations are already underway.
