Enter and view: Tudor House

Healthwatch Central Bedfordshire conducted an announced enter and view visit to Tudor House on 24 March 2015. The visit is part of the team’s wider enter and view programme to identify how dignity is being respected in a care home environment. On the day of the visit, the team engaged with 2 staff members and 3 residents using survey and observation methods.

The team found the home to be operating to a good standard of care in regard to cleanliness, dignity and respect. It had a warm, friendly atmosphere, the team were advised that the home was undertaking refurbishment. The residents were happy, given choice and appeared well cared for. Each resident has a care plan and key worker who also worked with the family. There was clear evidence of various social activities which the residents’ relatives were able to take part in. Residents are given a choice of menu for mealtime and those spoken to said that the standard of food was very good. The team observed positive interaction between staff and residents and residents were happy with the care they received. Staff have good training. Medication is distributed by a senior, trained carer. No relatives were present during the visit for the team to engage with.

The report included the recommendations that the redecoration of the home continue with the clear aim of improving the living environment for the residents. It was also recommended that consideration is made to the engagement of an activities coordinator to oversee the activities, and that the report is shared within the home.
