Healthwatch Blackpool reviewed maternity services following mixed patient feedback. Using a set of questions, the team consulted with groups, stakeholders and service users to gain insight into community experiences of local maternity services.
The review explored 90 people’s experiences of antenatal services, the quantity and quality of information, experience of choice and inclusion in decision making, experience of birth and labour support, and postnatal care. The report highlighted that there were concerns about the amount of choice and control patients had when choosing their care, particularly in antenatal care. However, the feedback received was largely positive in the remaining areas of the review.
The report did not include recommendations or a response from the service provider.
