Healthwatch Coventry conducted an Enter and View visit to Belvedere Park Nursing Home on the 8th of December 2014. The visit was part of research on the experience of living in care homes in Coventry with a focus on ‘would I wish my relative to live here?’. The team spoke to residents, relatives and members of staff using semi-structured questionnaires with open questions. They spoke to 6 people in total. They also made general notes about what they observed during their visit.
The report indicated that the residents were generally happy and satisfied with their quality of care. Staff members stated that they were happy working at the home. The report also noted that staff felt they were well supported by the manager of the home. One of the main areas of concern identified by relatives and residents was that there did not appear to be much choice of food and residents were not told in advance what meals were available. The report also commented on a lack of activities and organised outings for residents.
The report makes 5 recommendations. Two of the recommendations focused on providing more activities and organised outings for residents. The team indicated this was particularly important as they had noticed that residents did not have access to a garden and they spent most of their time in their rooms.
The report included a response from the provider. The provider disagreed with several recommendations.
