Healthwatch Derby conducted an announced Enter and View to Park Nursing Home on 4th March 2015.
The home which has 41 beds with 32 occupied at time of the visit, had some residents with mild dementia and 60 members of staff with a low staff turnover.
The team reported a general positive impression of the home. Descriptions of the lounges, which are designated according to their use, were Reminiscent room, Activities room and Sensory room , showed how the home caters for different needs of the residents. Observations at mealtime was positive and residents were helped as appropriate.
Surveys returned by the residents were all positive and the member of staff interviewed felt valued and said that the home well staffed and had adequate emotional and physical support available. There were no visitor surveys.
Healthwatch team made some recommendations:
• If possible, a deep clean could be undertaken to help alleviate the unpleasant odours in parts of the building.
• The day’s menu could be put on display as information for residents and visitors.
• Clean towels stored on open shelves could be covered.
• Bathroom 1 is in need of some redecoration.
There had been a change of management at The Park since the Enter and View visit, and the new manager gave a response and some comments in response to the recommendations.
