Healthwatch Bucks conducted an unannounced enter and view visit to Rayners Extra Care residential home on 24 February 2016. The team engaged with 4 residents, 1 relative and 2 members of staff during the visit using survey and observational methods. The visit forms part of the team's wider programme of enter and view visits about dignity and care.
The report found that the home was well run, with residents reporting positive feedback about their experience and care. The home’s environment was observed as bright and welcoming. Staff were praised by the residents, noting their positive interactions. The team were informed that the home does not use agency staff and members of staff have been employed at the home for many years. Residents appeared comfortable both physically and emotionally, they enjoyed the food, and their personal choice was respected. Trips out and to the local churches are arranged regularly for the residents. There was some concern raised about the lack of TV in the communal room during the day, although the team were informed that residents have their own TVs in their rooms.
The report made one recommendation to provide different forms of entertainment in the lounge.
The service provider responded to the report but disagreed with the recommendation suggesting that there are various games and books in the lounge.
