This report was written by Brent Centre for Young Prople following feedback gathered during a research project on young people and mental health from the local traveller community. Focus groups and interviews were used. Healthwatch Brent was a funder of this research.
The report was published July, 2016. It is based on focus group discussions with local people as well as interviews. A total of 24 people were engaged with.
Overall sentiment was mixed. The research set out to assess how those living at a particular traveller site thought about their lives, environment, and the impact on mental health. As a result there were concerns raised about the amount of space, acitivites for young people, trouble at school, access to services.
A set of recommendations has been made by the Brent Centre. No response from providers is attached, though this project is intended to be informative for a range of local services and groups that work with the traveller community.
