Summary of report content

This report was written by Healthwatch Brighton and Hove following previous assessments of the equipment and adaptatioin service in 2010 and on a smaller scale 2014.

The report was published March 2016 with a set of survey work and interviews being completed beforehand. A total of 608 responses were gathered, there were 581 survey responses and 27 semi-structured interviews completed.

Overall sentiment was mixed. Compared to the previous study in 2010 satisfaction was up. People in general were also happy with most aspects of the service provided. There was concern by some about the aftercare once equipment had been installed/provided. There was also concern about how equipment could be returned when not needed.

A set of recommendations is included in the report. No response from related providers is attached, however much of the transport referred to involves a mixture of privately arranged transport or public transport.

Summary of recommendations:

- The service maintains strong customer relations

- The service allows user’s choices where appropriate in selecting equipment

- Increased attention to efficient and timely delivery aiming to minimise problems experienced by users waiting for equipment

- A more consistent aftercare service needed

- Frequent and clear communication to users and carers about how to return equipment when no longer needed
