Summary of report content

This is an enter and view report conducted by Healthwatch Bucks 2 May, 2017. During the visit Healthwatch representatives spoke to 7 people, which included a mix of staff, residents and relatives. The visit was unannounced, though a two week window was given for the visit.

Overall the home was found to be operating to a reasonable standard. Residents had mixed comments the care they were receiving. Whilst treatment and privacy elements of care were good, there was a lack of activities and trips out.

Recommendations were made as part of this report. No response from the home manager has been attached.

Summary of recommendations:

- Ensure new staff are quickly aware of the wide ranging needs of their residents to avoid upset.

- Show a lunch menu with more than one option and puts up a pictorial menu too.

- Serves tea in china cups / mugs wherever possible.

- Invest in fiddle muffs and boards, possibly more dolls and teddies as well as reminiscence boxes (the latter can beborrowed from Bucks Libraries) and other activities for those living with dementia.

- Encourage all staff to engage with residents in activities such asdominoes, board games or cards.

- Encompass the community more in the home e.g. make contact with local schools, sports clubs and Scouts and Girlguiding .

- Look to involve Pets as Therapy or similar groups.
