This report was written by Healthwatch Bolton as part of a wider engagement project on neighbourhood assets. A discussion group was held to ask Weshoughton people what they thought about their local assets.
The report was published December, 2017. It is based on discussions with local people. A total of 26 people were engaged with.
Overall sentiment was mixed. A number of assets were identified as existing locally, this is a platform on which healthier lives can be led. On the other hand people identified a range of challenges such as a lack of involvement in big decisions, not feeling informed, services being hard to access or lacking that were barriers to maintaining good health.
While recommendations are not made a set of conclusions is given. No response from providers is attached, though this project does not engage with a single provider of services.
Summary of conclusions:
- Some felt the area was mis-characterised as wealthy, despite the needs there
- Desire to do more for their own health
- Lack of information
- Local problems with alcohol and substance abuse
- Potential for new primary care roles
- Need better access
- More decision making roles wanted
