As part of a programme of activity to explore the ‘restoration and recovery’ of health and care services after the COVID-19 pandemic, the three Sussex Healthwatch (Brighton & Hove, East Sussex and West Sussex) sought to better understand the longer-term impacts of COVID-19 infections, including people’s experiences of support in managing ongoing symptoms and the wider impacts on their day-to-day lives. They undertook qualitative engagement to explore the themes raised in an earlier survey. They spoke to 46 people.
Key themes explored included how long Covid impacted people's quality of life, physical and mental wellbeing, employment and job security, home life, experiences of health care, information and support for long Covid and experiences of the Post-Covid Assessment and Support Service.
The report contains four recommendations about greater awareness of long Covid; training for health professionals, dedicated clinics and the existing service capturing feedback from patients and acting on it.
